Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachcan rendered an apology to anyone, who may have been hurt by the alleged anti-Marathi remarks of his wife Jaya Bachchan during the promotion of Abhishek Bachchan starrer Drona.
Terming the incidents as 'unfortunate', Amitabh stressed, “This should never have happened and I am hurt because of this.” The apology came after Raj Thackeray and his party men insisted that Jaya Bachchan's remark was derogatory to Maharashtra and Marathi people. Countering the allegations, Bachchan said, “Nobody from my family will ever intend to hurt the people of Maharashtra. However, I would like to apologize even if a single person is hurt by the remarks.”
At Drona event, Jaya had supported the usage of Hindi language by the people hailing from Uttar Pradesh. In retaliation, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) of Raj Thackeray had threatened to ban the release of the Bachchans' films in Maharashtra. The premier of Amitabh starrer The Last Lear was also called off, after few suspected MNS activists vandalized a multiplex that was supposed to screen the film.
Discreetly pointing at the incident, Bachchan stated, “If people feel we have offended them, then let the law of the land decide the matter. We will accept any punishment if ruled on us.” Big B further clarified, “We could never think of saying anything against the city or the state that has given us name and fame.” In addition, he even preferred to be hanged if they had done anything wrong.
