Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival 2009 recently.
Their appearance at Cannes Festival was a precursor to the unveiling of the first look of their film Kites, directed by Anurag Basu.
"Kites is the first Bollywood film designed for crossover," says producer Rakesh Roshan. "Till now we were only making films for Bollywood and the NRI audiences. This is the first film where we have invested a lot of money and hired the best crew to bring the film up to Hollywood standards."
"This is my first time in Cannes, and I am really nervous about being on the Red Carpet," adds Barbara Mori.
"Kites is about two lovers from different parts of the world having one thing in common. They want to earn money in the easiest and quickest way possible," informs director Anurag Basu. "They do that. And the film is about the fight between their love and their ambition."
Kites is the "first Bollywood film which communicates in an international language. It has a Mexican star and Spanish and Hindi dialogues. It has never been done before and it talks about a universal subject, love," says Hrithik Roshan.
Kites is a romantic tale about an Indian guy and a Mexican beauty. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori in lead roles, the movie is directed by Anurag Basu while Rakesh Roshan is the producer.
In Kites, Hrithik plays a man named J, who used to be a clever, street smart, charming guy, but is now a wanted man. What's more, he's left to die in the scorching heat of the Mexican desert, and only one desire keeps him alive: to find the woman he loves.
That woman is Natasha (Barbara Mori), who is engaged to another man. But the moment J and Natasha see each other, words are not necessary. In that moment, they know instantly that they belong together.
But Natasha only speaks Spanish, while J speaks Hindi, with a smattering of English. And then something goes wrong. A fight between the two leads to a deadly chase and J discovers something shocking.
Kangana Ranaut completes the love triangle by adding another angle to the love story.
Renowned American choreographer Flexy Stu has added spice to the movie through some breath-taking dance sequences by Hrithik, Barbara and Kangana. Farah Khan has done the choreography for one song shot in Mumbai.
