According to Bollywood sources, Amrita Rao's mother has objected to her relationship with Ishq Vishk co-star Vishal Malhotra. The actress's mother had earlier objected to her relations with Nikhil Dwivedi. The desire of Amrita's mother to see her get married to someone who is more successful than Amrita is the reason behind the objections.

Amrita Rao started her career as a model. After bagging the Cadbury's Perk Karwa Chaut advertisement and the Bru Coffee ad, she started getting Bollywood movie offers.

Amrita Rao made her acting debut in 2002 with the film Ab Ke Baras for which she won the Star Screen Award for the Most Promising Newcomer - Female. Her popular movies include Main Hoon Na and Sooraj R. Barjatya's Vivah opposite Shahid Kapoor. The promising actress has won the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award for her performance in Vivaah.
