1920 - Interview with Vikram Bhatt

Writer, director and producer, Vikram Bhatt has films like Ghulam, Kasoor and Raaz to his credit. Films that have tremendous mass appeal. His next film, 1920 is a period film about an Indian architect and his Anglo Indian love, who go to a chateau and discover that it is haunted.

The film also has a steamy Rakhi Sawant item number. However, the director claims that the song was ideated much before they decided to cast Rakhi.

The music of 1920 is composed by Adnan Sami, who has roped in legendary classical singers like Pandit Jasraj and Parveen Sultana, along with Asha Bhonsale, Kailash Kher and Shubha Mudgal. “Adnan has done a wonderful job. He made Pandit Jasraj sing his first ever Hindi film song,” beams Vikram. The music is a fusion of these legendary voices and contemporary music. “1920 has a music that should adorn the collector's shelf,” adds Vikram.

1920 features Rajnish Duggal and Adah Sharma of Mumbai Salsa fame. Vikram has his reasons for working with new comers. “I don't want to work with unprofessional actors, who behave like they are doing a favor for you by coming on the sets,” complains Vikram about the stars. He feels that a film may not be a hit with just a big star cast. In his opinion, there is no definite formula of a hit film, “If I knew the formula, I wouldn't have given so many flops.”

Vikram also points out the increasing number of flops that are churned out by big banners. “I have great respect for Aditya Chopra. He is a genius in terms of marketing. Unfortunately nobody in the industry can be right all the time,” says Vikram.

After 1920, Vikram wants to get back to writing his book, A Summer of Frost, a story about relationships. The book is partially inspired by Vikram's life.
