When Ganesha and Kartikeya come of age, Shiva and Parvathi contemplate marrying them. The boys argue about who should marry first. Shiva solves the issue by suggesting that whoever completes a circumambulation of the earth will marry first.

The next morning while Kartikeya sets off early, Ganesha goes around his parents seven times. He reminds his parents that according to the Vedas, he who prays to his parents and goes around them once is blessed as having gone around the world once.

Shiva accepts the logic and Ganesha is married to Siddhi and Buddhi.
