Hollywood superstar Meryl Streep gained an unflattering 15 pounds on the sets of her film Julie and Julia. Meryl's co star Amy Adams joined her during the eating binge and gained weight as well.
The two Hollywood hot shots act as cooks from different generations on the film based on a true story and were encouraged by producer Nora Ephron to try the exotic dishes on the set so that the weight gain makes the actors look like real cooks.
Julie Powell (Amy Adams), an office temp, is frustrated with her dull life.
In the hope of doing something out of the ordinary, Julie embarks on a mission to cook every recipe from renowned cook Julia Child's book Mastering the Art of French Cooking, all 524 recipes in one year.
So starts Julie's blog, The Julie/Julia Project, which chronicles her experiences during her mission. Surprisingly the blog is an instant hit and finally gives Julie a reason to be happy with her existence.
The film also chronicles the life of Julia Child (Meryl Streep). After moving to Paris with her husband Paul (Stanely Tucci), Julia, like Julie, also found herself without a purpose. She was prompted to take up cooking and became a legend.
