A prequel to the highly successful Underworld and Underworld Evolution, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans traces the origin of the centuries old blood feud between vampires and lycans.
Set in the Dark Ages, the aristocratic vampires, who call themselves Death Dealers, are ruled by their ruthless leader Viktor (Bill Nighy). The Lycans are their protectors and slaves and are never considered equals. Among a situation as such of discrimination, a young Lycan called Lucian (Michael Sheen) falls in love with Sonja (Rhona Mitra), a vampire and Viktor's daughter.
Fully aware that Viktor will not treat him or his race with any respect and will never approve his union with Sonja, Lucian emerges as a powerful and unstoppable leader of the Lycans and rallies his race together to fight Viktor and the other Death Dealers.
Then commences a bloody battle between the Lycans and the Death Dealers. The Lycans are joined in their struggle by Sonja to end the cruelty that the Lycans have faced for centuries and get the freedom they deserve.
