Ahmed Khan was forced to chop off another actor's role to accommodate Shahid Kapoor's role in Paathshala. Shahid's role was initially planned to be a cameo. But the length of the role started increasing as soon as director Ahmed Khan realized that he has winner in his hands. Ahmed felt that the film can pose a tough competition to the hit children's film like Taare Zameen Par.

Movie Story

Paathshaala is the story of a school on the verge of shutdown and how the impending crisis affects the people connected with the school. Nana Patekar plays the principal of the school who is trying to redeem the institution from a state of financial ruin. The leading pair of Shahid Kapoor and Ayesha Takia play teachers whose presence and lessons create an impact in the lives of their students.
