Lata Mangeshkar turns 80

Popularly known as the Nightingale of Bollywood, Lata Mangeshkar has attained the age of 80 today. The melodious voice of this legendary singer has mesmerized the masses during her singing career spanning over a period of 66 years.

Lata, usually, does not celebrate her birthday and, in all probabilities, will not celebrate this year either. She prefers to spend her special day by offering prayer at the famous Mahalaxmi Temple situated near her home in Mumbai. This year, Lata is most likely to attend a function at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune, which she built in memory of her father.

Lata Mangeshkar has the distinction of working with almost all the top music composers and singers in the Bollywood industry. She is credited to have sung more than 30,000 songs in over 20 Indian languages.

Lata has proved her versatility by singing not just for films but also light classical songs ghazals, bhajans and even pop songs.
