Artist Biography
Abhas Kumar Ganguly, popularly known as Kishore Kumar, was the youngest brother of popular actor Ashok Kumar. Though Kishore Kumar is known for several evergreen songs in Bollywood movies, the versatile singer also proved his mettle in acting, carving a niche for himself for comedy.
His energetic voice greatly impressed S D Burman, who heard Kishore a visit to Ashok Kumar's house. SD Burman immediately signed Kishore Kumar. After the demise of S D Burman, Kishore rendered a string of hits under the guidance of Burman's son Rahul.
Kishore gave innumerable hit songs; some of his evergreen hits are Roop tera mastaana (Aaradhana), Dil aisa kisi ne (Amanush), Khaike paan banaraswala (Don), Pag ghunghroo baandh (Namak Halaal); for all of which he won the prestigious Filmfare award.
Kishore produced, directed and even wrote scripts and lyrics for movies. Kishore married some of the most popular and attractive Bollywood actresses namely Madhubala, Yogeeta Bali and Leena Chandavarkar. Kishore passed away on October 13, 1987, following cardiac failure.
