Artist Biography

 

Born in 1959, Shubha Mudgal received her flair for Indian classical music from her parents who were professors in English literature. Her intial training in Hindustani music began with Pandit Ram Ashreya Jha in Allahabad, after which she went on to train with Pandit Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya and Pt. Vasant Thakar in Delhi.
Shubha's Ab Ke Saawan and Pyar Ke Geet became extremely popular, while Man ki Manjeere was her tribute to women which gave an opportunity to newcomers to showcase their talent. Ali More Angana, too, was much appreciated and created a fan-base amongst the youth. The number Ali More Angana even became a popular track played at discotheques.
Blessed with a voice that could be modulated to suit any genre, from Rock to Samba, and Jazz to Folk, Shubha Mudgal is renowned for her modern adaptations of various forms of popular music. Besides being a concert artist, she's even known for her music compositions.
