Artist Biography

Anuradha Paudwal, possibly one of the most controversial Bollywood singers, was a student of St Xavier's College, Mumbai who participated in cultural programmes, but did not have a background in film music.
She married Arun Paudwal, then a music arranger working for legendary music director S D Burman, and got her first playback assignment for Abhimaan, an Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan starrer, in which she sang a Sanskrit shloka. With S D Burman as its music director, Abhimaan was her dream debut. Her real big project, though, was Subhash Ghai directed Kalicharan in 1976. Anuradha sang her first solo in Laxmikant-Pyarelal composed Aap Beeti. She soon got opportunities to sing for top music directors like Rajesh Roshan (Des Pardes), Kalyanji-Anandji (Vidhata) and Jaidev (Laila Majnu).
With her husband Arun Paudwal, in collaboration with Anil Mohile, creating a name for himself in Marathi cinema; Anuradha availed of opportunities to sing some extremely popular Marathi numbers, like Disatein Mazlaa (Ashtavinayak), Raja Lalkaari, Kaalya Maatita Maatita amongst others.
The song Mere Mann Bajaa Mridang from the film Utsav won her the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer in 1985. Her collaboration with Gulshan Kumar in the 1990s won her three consecutive Filmfare Awards for the films Aashiqui, Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin and Beta. Declaring that she would only work for T-series, Anuradha shifted focus towards devotional song albums and cover-versions in the late 1990s. It was in 1999 that she returned to playback singing with Pukar.
