May 15, 2009: CPI leader A B Bardhan on Friday, in a surprising move, proposed JD (U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's name for the post of Prime Minister.

He added that Nitish's demand for special status to Bihar could be accommodated

Bardhan also categorically stated that they would not extend support to the Congress.

It was presumed that the Third Front would have no other choice but to support Congress in order to prevent NDA-led BJP from coming to power.

Similarly, NCP leader Sangma on Friday had suggested Sharad Pawar's name for PM's post and also sought BJP's support for his proposal.

Background
