May 12 (0830 hrs) After the `Marathi Manoos’ card played by Maharashtra Navnirnman Sena (MNS), it was Shiv Sena’s turn to show it’s `love’ for Marathi.
On Sunday, Shiv Sainiks renewed their campaign for Marathi language and targeted establishments using the word `Bombay’. Amongst the first to bear the brunt of the saffron party’s ire was the prestigious Bombay Scottish school in Mahim, where younger son of Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray studies.
Uddhav’s elder son Aditya recently passed out from the school.
Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena (BVS), which spearheaded attack on the school, said the fact that we have targeted Bombay Scottish school makes it clear that our leaders are very serious about the campaign and are taking a strong stand, inspite of their sons being part of the school.
Apart from Bombay Scottish, BVS activists targeted establishments with the word Bombay at four locations --- Bombay Dyeing showroom and office of the Times of India for its supplement Bombay Times.
The activists burnt the copies of Bombay Times to register their protest.
Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna on Sunday had showered praises on Raj Thackeray for his pro-local stand and fighting for the cause of Marathis.
BVS leader Abhijit Panse said, they had taken a cue from the editorial and had renewed their campaign for Marathi language.
