Baitullah Mehsud behind Police Academy Attack, Says Rehman Malik

Mar 31, 2009: Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday claimed hand of Baitullah Mehsud in Monday's Manawan police training school attack.

Malik said the attack was planned in the country's tribal region of south Waziristan.

He further claimed that the authorities had knowledge of a possible attack in Pakistan.

Security forces arrested a terrorist who was later identified to be from Afghanistan's Paktika province.

The Interior Minister asserted that more details would be available after the end of a high level investigation soon.

Armed terrorists attacked police training school in Lahore killing 26 and injuring over 100 people. The operation to flush out attackers continued for eight hours.

This was second attack in Lahore within a month. On March 3, Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked while they were on their way to Gaddafi stadium.



 

Background

Several terror attacks have taken place in important cities of Pakistan before. The latest was attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore.
