Baitullah Mehsud Claims Responsibility for Lahore Police Academy Attack

Mar 31, 2009: Tehrik-e-Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud on Tuesday claimed responsibility for dastardly attack on Manawan police training school in Lahore that killed 27 and injured over 100 people.

Mehsud is also suspected to have masterminded the assassination of former Pak Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

The responsibility was claimed by his close aide Farukh Mehsud, who also warned of more such attacks in other cities in Pakistan.

United States also declared Mehsud a threat to the country and recently declared a head money of USD five million on him.

Heavily armed terrorists attacked the police training school in Lahore and the flush out operation continued for eight hours.

This was second attack in Lahore within a month. On March 3, Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked while they were on their way to Gaddafi stadium.



 

Background

Several terror attacks have taken place in important cities of Pakistan before. The latest was attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore.
