March 26, 2009: India look all set to take on New Zealand in the second Test match at Napier. If the men in blue led by M S Dhoni are successful in defeating Kiwis in the second Test match they create history by winning a series in New Zealand after 41 years.
Also, this would be the 100 Test win for the country.
Glance at India's Test captains:
India played first Test match at Lords on 25th June 1932 under the captaincy of C K Nayudu.
In 1952, the Indian team led by Vijay Hazare defeated England at Chennai.
In 1962 Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi became the youngest cricketer to lead India. He had a successful stint as captain with the country registering wins in India and abroad.
It was under Pataudi that India registered series win in New Zealand.
Mohammad Azharuddin, under whose captaincy India never lost a series at home and Sourav Ganguly who led India to victories in India and foreign soils were among the successful India captains.
Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who captained India in 49 Tests, however, does not have a good record as a team leader as the country registered only four test wins during his tenure as captain.
Sand Sculptor Thanks Sachin Tendulkar in Unique Style
World renowned sand sculptor Sudarshan Patnaik has thanked ace Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar for dedicating the Hamilton test century to the cause of tiger conservation in a unique way. He sculpted a tiger using 15 tonnes of sand on Puri beach in Orissa.
