Delhi School Stampede Leaves Five Dead

Sep 10, 2009: Five students were killed and 32 injured in a stampede in a school at Khaujoori Khaas area in East Delhi.

The incident occurred when students of the government senior secondary school tried to rush out of the school following rumors that current had entered the flood water in the school compound.

Of the injured, 21 students suffered serious injuries. Five were said to be in a critical state. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand for the injured.
