Dec 3, 2008 (1500 hrs) Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni retained the top spot in one day international (ODI) rankings for batsmen released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) recently.

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who missed out playing in the first three ODIs against England, is at the 12th position.

In the bowling department, pacer Zaheer Khan was the topmost ranked Indian at 11th place, while off-spinner Harbhajan Singh climbed two positions to occupy the 20th place.

Pacer Nathan Bracken of Australia also retained his place at the top in the bowling rankings, followed by left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori in the second position.

The first three batting ranks remain the same with Michael Hussey of Australia and South Africa's Graeme Smith occupying the second and third places again respectively.

Background

Nov 22, 2008 Sat (1500 hrs) Indian cricket team skipper M S Dhoni has reportedly threatened to resign from the captaincy following R P Singh's omission from the ODI squad for the fourth and fifth match of the ongoing series against England.

Dhoni had a disagreement with the selection committee members during the meet on November 20 to choose team for the two games, according to reports which quoted an unnamed selector as saying.

The wicketkeeper-batsman was unhappy that the committee decided to replace R P Singh with Irfan Pathan and offered to quit, the reports said further.

BCCI secretary N Srinivisan, however, rubbished the reports saying he could not respond to something that was being floated around by somebody.
