Jun 19, 2009: National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Girija Vyas on Friday demanded that the rape case involving Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja be tried in a fast track court.
Vyas said she would talk to the Maharashtra government in this regard.
If the Maharashtra government shifts the trial to the fast track court it would be the first rape case in the state to be tried in such a court.
She argued that if a verdict in a rape case can be passed within 21 days in a state like Rajasthan, then why not in Mumbai.
The fast trial would come as a relief for the rape victims, she added.
Vyas, who was in Mumbai, met Anupam Ahuja, wife of the Bollywood actor, and also the parents of the Victim.
Shiney Ahuja is accused of raping his maid servant.
Shiney Ahuja made his film debut with Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003).
Gangster, Woh Lamhe (2006); Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) and Life in a Metro (2007) are some of his successful flicks.
He is married to Anupam and has a two-year-old daughter.
