Jun 8, 2009: England defeated Pakistan by 48 runs in the ICC T20 match played at Oval on Sunday and kept their hopes alive in the tournament.

England began their innings on a bad note and lost first wicket of Ravi Bopara on meager score of nine runs after they were put to bat first by Pakistan.

Bopara was replaced by Kevin Pietersen, who played some good strokes that boosted the team's tally. He scored quick 58 runs in 38 balls.

Luke Wright and Owais Shah also batted well and helped the team pile runs. Wright made 34 off 16 deliveries, while Shah scored 33 runs in 32 balls.

Thus England managed to post a total of 185 runs after losing five wickets in stipulated 20 overs.

Pakistan began the runs chase and lost opener Ahmed Shehzad in third over on 13 runs.

The pressure on Pakistan increased after Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal too failed to show power play.

Skipper Younus Khan‘s blistering innings pumped in some hopes of victory in Pakistan team. Khan scored 46 runs in 31 balls.

However, the skipper failed to get required support from the other end as the wickets kept falling and Pakistan ended on 137 runs after losing seven wickets in 20 overs.

England's Luke Wright was adjudged Man of the Match.
