Jun 4, 2009: Riding on half century knocks from openers Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir and 140 runs partnership between them, India on Wednesday defeated Pakistan by nine wickets in its second warm-up match of ICC T20 World Cup.
Chasing a total of 159, Sharma and Gambhir went after Pakistan bowling attack right from the beginning.
Sharma slammed 80 runs off just 53 balls. His innings included nine fours and two sixes.
Gambhir remained not out on 52 runs.
M Aamer was the wicket taker for Pakistan.
Earlier electing to bat first, Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals. However, a 50-run partnership between skipper Younis Khan (32) and Misbah-ul-Haq (not out 37) for the sixth wicket saw the team pile up a fighting total.
Praveen Kumar, Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma, Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha picked up a wicket apiece for Team India.
The first ICC Twenty20 World Cup was held in South Africa between September 11 and September 24, 2007.
Twelve teams, including 10 test playing nations, had participated in the 13-day-long competition.
India had clinched the trophy beating archrivals Pakistan under the leadership of M S Dhoni.
