July 13 (2000 hrs): Is incessant hairfall worrying you? Fret not. Students from the Banaras Hindu University have devised a new cure in which leeches collected from the water bodies of Banaras are used to treat falling hair.

The leeches collected are placed only on those parts of the head where hairfall is prominent. The leeches then suck out the blood which obstructs the growth of hair.

Leech is an invertebrate (without spinal cord) belonging to the phylum Annelida. All species of leeches feed on blood.

Leeches are also used to reduce blood coagulation or clot-free circulation of blood, especially after plastic surgery, and stimulate circulation in reattachment operations for organs with critical blood flow, such as eye lids, fingers, and ears.
