Apr 10, 2009: After Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, it was Congress MP Naveen Jindal's turn on Friday when a retired school teacher hurled a shoe at him in Kurukshetra.
The incident occurred while Jindal was addressing a poll meeting in the constituency.
A retired school teacher Rajpal flung his shoe towards Jindal to protest Congress' policies. Jindal, however, ducked in time.
Rajpal was immediately whisked out of the rally and taken into custody.
The Congress MP alleged that Rajpal was under the influence of alcohol.
Earlier, journalist Jarnail Singh had flung a shoe at Chidambaram at a press conference to protest CBI's clean chit to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 anti-Sikhs riot case.
Naveen Jindal became Member of Parliament for the first time in 2004 from Haryana's Kurukshetra on Congress ticket.
He is also an industrialist and heads the Jindal Group, country's fourth largest private sector business organizations.
Till 2002, the Flag code of India didn't allow flying of the tricolor atop non-government organizations. In 2001, Jindal filed a PIL in Supreme Court in this regard saying hoisting the flag should be right of every citizen and won the case.
The SC ordered the Centre to set aside a panel to look into the matter and finally on January 26, 2002, Republic Day, citizens were permitted to fly the tricolor inside and atop their organizations and buildings.
