Jun 23, 2009: At least six people were killed and several others injured in a collision between two metro trains in Washington DC on Monday evening.
The mishap occurred when a derailed metro train was hit by a train coming from opposite direction.
Many of the commuters, who were trapped, were rescued after firefighters cut open the carriages.
A probe has been ordered into the accident.
On April 29, four people were killed and 11 others injured when an unidentified person drove an EMU out of Chennai railway station, which later collided with a goods train at Vysarpadi.
In July 2008, 32 passengers, including a pregnant woman were charred to death when fire broke out in the Kakinada-bound Gautami Express in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh.
