May 26, 2009: Normalcy is slowly returning to violence hit districts of Punjab, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said on Tuesday.
However, curfew continued in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Phagwara and Kapurthala, the districts worst affected by violence as a precautionary measure.
Large scale violence was witnessed in Punjab after rival Sikh factions clashed in the Austrian capital of Vienna during a sermon delivery on May 24.
Sikh priest Ramanand was killed in the incident.
Badal said, curfew in ninety percent areas was lifted following marked improvement in the situation.
Earlier on March 17, in a suspected racial attack, a Gurdwara in London was gutted in fire and many priceless books were destroyed.
The fire broke out mysteriously after which a criminal investigation was launched by the London Police.
