Protestors Torch Three Trains in Bihar after Halts are Cancelled

Jun 1, 2009: Angry over railway administration's decision to withdraw halts of several trains at Khusrupur, locals torched three trains in Bihar on Monday.

The angry crowd set on fire two air-conditioned coaches of Patna-Danapur Sahersa express train, bogies of Danapur-Rajgir train and Danapur-Jainagar Intercity express  at Khusrupur.

Following violent protests, railways have revoked its decision to cancel halts at Khusrupur.

The blaze was brought under control after several hours of fire fighting.

None of the passenger sustained injuries, police said.



 

Background

On April 29, four people were killed and 11 others injured when an unidentified person drove an EMU out of Chennai railway station, which later collided with a goods train at Vysarpadi.

In July 2008, 32 passengers, including a pregnant woman were charred to death when fire broke out in the Kakinada-bound Gautami Express in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh.
