May 26, 2009: Railway services in Punjab and Jammu have been affected with scores of passengers stranded at several stations in the two states following violent protests by Dera Sachkhand sect supporters against attack on religious leaders at a gurudwara in Vienna.
Nearly 26,000 passengers are stranded at several stations including Amritsar in Punjab and Jammu after over 20 trains running from and to the two states were cancelled.
Devotees on way to Vaishnodevi are especially facing hardships following uncertainty over as to when the traffic would resume from Jammu and Katra stations.
Rail officials, on the other hand, said the services would be resumed once situation between Jammu and Pathankot turns normal.
The officials said ensuring safety of passengers at such time was of priority to them.
Violent protest erupted in parts of Punjab after thirty people including some religious leaders were killed in a clash between two groups in a gurudwara in Austria's capital Vienna on Sunday.
Earlier on March 17, in a suspected racial attack, a Gurdwara in London was gutted in fire and many priceless books were destroyed.
The fire broke out mysteriously after which a criminal investigation was launched by the London Police.
