Feb 7, 2009: Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chaudhary on Saturday slammed Karnataka government for not taking action against Sri Ram Sene, the Hindu outfit which had threatened to marry off dating couples on Valentine’s Day.
Chaudhary asked how the Sri Ram Sene activists were empowered to make decision that they could attack couples, women on the streets.
Without naming the Hindu outfit’s head Pramod Muthalik, the minister said how come he was allowed to speak in a manner that would arouse communal tension.
Doubting law and order situation in Karnataka, she said people were likely to be targeted by miscreants on Valentine’s Day in the state.
The self-styled moral brigade Sri Ram Sene on Thursday had threatened to forcibly marry off couples cosying up in public on February 14.
The organization was in news for attacking college students at Mangalore pub on January 25 for allegedly violating Indian culture.
After Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, now it is the turn of Sri Ram Sene, to target the Valentine Day celebrations in Karnataka.
Sri Ram Sene, led by Pramod Muthalik, was recently in news for attacking a pub in Mangalore on January 25.
Sri Ram Sene activists had beaten up all those present in the pub, including girls.
After a lot of hue and cry, Muthalik and 33 Ram Sene activists were arrested for the pub attack.
