March 20, 2009: Senior Janata Dal (United) leader and former Union minister Digvijay Singh said on Friday that he had made up his mind to contest from Banka parliamentary seat even if his party does not allocate him a ticket.

 

There were speculations that Singh would not be given a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections

 

He said that he would be contesting from the seat and was waiting for his party's decision on the same.

 

Singh has also made it clear that he would quit his Rajya Sabha seat before filing his nomination from his old constituency of Banka.  

 

Meanwhile, JD (U) president Sharad Yadav speaking over the party's denial of ticket to Singh, said that no final decision had yet been taken on ticket distribution.



 

Background

Congress and its allies formed the UPA government after the General Elections in 2004. Senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh was then appointed the Prime Minister after Congress chief Sonia Gandhi refused to accept the post.
