Background

Pakistan has witnessed many bomb attacks in the last few years with the strike on Islamabad's five-star Marriott Hotel in September last year being one of the deadliest incident in recent times.

Sixty people were killed, while over 100 others injured in the hotel attack.

Besides the big cities, its tribal regions near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where Taliban has strong presence especially, are prone to bomb explosions and suicide attacks.
