Apr 9, 2009: The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday revealed Congress chief Sonia Gandhi was on the hit list of terror group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE).

The Home Ministry has asked all states, especially southern ones, to beef up Sonia's security during election campaigns.

Earlier, Sonia's husband, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, had lost his life in a LTTE suicide bomb attack during a poll rally in Tamil Nadu in 1991.

The Congress president is also on the hit list of other militant outfits Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), as informed by the intelligence agencies earlier.

Meanwhile, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) too warned banks in Kerala of likely LTTE strike as the terror group has been lacking monetary funds following its war with Sri Lankan Army for quite some time now.
