July 28 (1400 hrs) The Apex Court on Monday dismissed a petition filed by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray challenging criminal cases registered against him by Jharkhand government in connection with his alleged provocative speeches against the North Indians.
Raj Thackeray contended that Jharkhand government had no jurisdiction to register a case against him and said his speeches were not provocative.
MNS-led by Raj Thackeray had launched anti-north Indian tirade and mostly taxi drivers, who hail from northern part of the country had bore the brunt of the agitation.
The Jharkhand government had registered a case against Raj for allegedly provoking Marathi-speaking people against North Indians.
It is alleged that inflammatory speeches by Raj led to large-scale attack on North Indians particularly those from Bihar and Jharkhand.
