Swine Flu Alert in India

Apr 28, 2009: The government has sounded alert to eight airports across India to screen passengers coming from swine flu affected countries for flu symptoms.

 It has directed that all passengers coming from Western countries, especially from US, Canada and Mexico be provided masks on arrival.

Also they have been advised to undergo Tamiflu vaccination at the airport.

An official said that nine airports in India have been identified and provided with facilities to quarantine persons and to provide public health workers with passes so that health ministry can screen passengers.

Over 150 people have died due to Swine Flu in Mexico and New Zealand.



 

Background

Swine Flu, also known as Swine Influenza, refers to influenza triggered by any virus of the family Orthomyxoviridae, that is endemic to swines.

People who work with poultry and swine are at higher risk contracting the disease.
