May 10 (1000 hrs) The first phase of assembly elections in Karnataka began in 89 constituencies spread across 11 districts at 7.00 a.m. on Saturday. This is the first time that elections would be held after the Centre's delimitation process.
 The districts where voting is underway include Chikkaballapur, Tumkur, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore Urban, Kolar, Chamrajnagar, Mysore, Kodagu, Hassan, Mandya and Ramnagara constituencies.
 The elections would determine the fate of former deputy Chief Minister H. Siddaramaiah contesting from Mysore district’s newly carved Varuna segment and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy from JD-S seeking a re-election from Ramanagara constituency.
 In all, there are 3500 sensitive and 6252 hyper-sensitive polling stations. More than 58,000 security personnel including Karnataka State Reserve Police and Central Paramilitary forces have been deployed.
 More than 1.73 lakh people are eligible to vote in the first phase of elections. The voting ends at 5.00 p.m.
