Scion of the Rai Bahadur family, Anant Rai Desai is in dire straits after turning a pauper.

His elder daughter Rachna does everything to keep Anant happy. 

Rachna suffers from frequent nervous breakdowns, which sometimes leads to amnesia. Their family doctor, who has now retired, sends his son Dr Amal for her checkup. When Rachna meets Amal she feels he is the man for whom she was waiting all these years. However, Rachna's younger sister, Lopa, too, starts feeling the same for Amal.

 

Amal loves Rachna and asks Anant for her hand. Rachna is delighted to hear this, while Lopa is shattered.

On the day of their marriage, an emotional Lopa expresses fears about her future and the struggles of living with a penurious father. Moved by her revelations, Amal hands over a cheque of Rs 50,000 to her. Lopa asks him not to reveal this to anyone.
