Dhritarashtra, Gandhari and Kunti prepare to embark on their exile when the Pandavas come to see them. Dhritarashtra says he is glad that Hastinapur finally has a king who is not blind and will be able to make better judgments than he did. He says he has realized that Vidur was right when he opposed a blind king and he should have listened to him.
Draupadi, who is standing outside the chamber, is brought inside by Gandhari. Draupadi tries to convince them to stay back at the palace. But Dhritarashtra cannot overcome the guilt he feels for being the cause of the destruction Hastinapur went through. Draupadi says if Dhritarashtra has truly forgiven the Pandavas, he cannot leave them.
Dhritarashtra finally gives in to Draupadi's insistence and agrees to stay back in Hastinapur. Gandhari asks Dhritarashtra to meet Bhishma and inform him that Hastinapur is finally safe but Dhritarashtra refuses to see Bhishma by saying he does not want Bhishma to see him in his final moments of life.
The Pandavas and Krishna go to meet Bhishma on the battlefield. Bhishma had been waiting for precisely the same moment as he wants to see Krishna one last time before he can go to heaven.
